Use USGS for the event, ShakeMap for estimated shaking, Earthquake Warning California for alert setup, and transportation, utility and local emergency sources for operational conditions.
Drop, Cover and Hold On. Do not run outside. Near the coast, strong or long shaking is a natural tsunami warning: after shaking stops, follow local instructions and move inland or to high ground when directed or when natural warning signs are present.

After the shaking stops
- Check the USGS event page and ShakeMap for the estimated extent and intensity of shaking.
- Check local city or county emergency information for instructions and inspected closures.
- Use Caltrans QuickMap and CHP incidents for reported transportation conditions; a camera cannot prove a structure is safe.
- Check your utility’s official outage map and treat downed lines as energized.
- For coastal or offshore events, check Tsunami.gov and local emergency management immediately.
