- Confirm your operating airline, terminal, flight time and gate using JFK’s departures guide and the airline.
- Review the current security information for your departure terminal and include the published walk time from security to the gate.
- Open JFK Alerts and Advisories for construction, roadway, AirTrain or pickup changes.
- Check FAA NAS Status for airport-wide ground stops, ground delays or departure delays.
- If driving or using a ride app, verify the terminal-specific route and pickup location before leaving.

Terminal and roadway details matter
- JFK’s official terminal overview says terminal security times are updated in real time; use the departures and terminal pages rather than a generic estimate.
- Published walks from security vary by terminal and gate; Terminal 4 can require substantially more walking than the shortest terminals.
- AirTrain trips between passenger terminals are free, but changing terminals may require another security screening.
- Current roadway guidance separates access routes for Terminals 1 and 4 from Terminals 5, 7 and 8.
- Ride-app pickup for Terminals 5 and 7 is currently relocated to Howard Beach AirTrain Station, while accessible pickups remain available at terminal frontage.

No. FAA status reports broader air-traffic and airport events. Confirm your individual flight with the operating airline.
Can I change terminals without screening again?
Do not assume so. JFK warns that some terminal connections require another TSA screening, especially when changing terminals.
Are construction alerts separate from flight delays?
Yes. A flight may be on time while roadway or pickup changes still add significant travel time.
