Mountain conditions can deteriorate quickly. From September 1 through May 31, the statutory traction requirements apply on the I-70 Mountain Corridor between Morrison and Dotsero, with stricter chain requirements possible during storms.

Direction, milepost and law status all matter
- A closure west of the destination may not block the trip; identify the milepost and direction.
- Tunnel safety metering can create stopped traffic without a full closure.
- A passenger chain law is the last step before possible closure.
- Cameras provide visibility context but do not prove the road surface is safe.
