Conditions can differ sharply between park entrances and Logan Pass. Start with NPS current conditions, then check the road-status map and any active alerts.
An open entrance does not mean the alpine section over Logan Pass is open. Mountain weather, rockfall and snow can close sections with little notice.

LOCATION-SPECIFIC GUIDANCE
Entrance access is not Logan Pass access
- Going-to-the-Sun Road has no fixed annual full-opening date.
- Between Avalanche Creek and Rising Sun, vehicles over 21 feet long or 8 feet wide are prohibited; height over 10 feet can also be difficult.
- Vehicle reservations are not required in 2026, but that rule can change in future seasons.
- The park’s 2026 shuttle plan uses special ticketing for some longer hikes from Logan Pass.
- Status maps may not immediately reflect every fallen tree or rapidly developing hazard.
